All of my paintings have a story. Nothing comes from thin air. “Princess Jasmine as Amelia Earhart” stemmed in my brain, out of my painting “Snow White as Rosie the Riveter”. On a trip to Disney World with my sisters, we joked about how Disney ruined our lives (sarcasm!) because the movies set such unrealistic…

Dia de los Muertos Bi-Plane
This painting was a commission, for a baby’s bedroom. Their color scheme was bright tropical colors like greens, yellows and blues. The theme was bi-planes. I was asked to create a dia de los muertos image, a little on the less “scarey” side for the little guy. I made the stars hugging- Mama and papi…
Shatter Me
I love this piece- It’s an anthem. The half-tone woman is every woman who was too extra for her gender “role”. The half-tone is completely inspired by the old 1930s print ads.The dark parts are actually nebulas and constellations and milky ways, if you look closely. They are everything every woman and everyONE should reach for — the stars.
Chicago Flower & Garden Show
Eeeee!!! What a show. I was honored to be invited and included in this event at Navy Pier, March 20-24 2019. I had never been, and had no idea what to expect! The show theme was Flowertales and the tablescapes and decorations were to die for! Jack and the Beanstalk themed tablescape. And Relics Themed…
A Fleeting Moment
As I watched the total eclipse without need for my eclipse glasses, and turned in a circle to witness the sunset that was suddenly happening in the middle of the day all around me, and heard the crickets and cicadas going bananas, the enormity and the power of it all struck me. This thing that…
“Staining” wood with acrylics
I’m mixing a gloss varnish that is water based, with tiny bits of my indigo acrylic, to create a wash or a stain for my wood. I want the final result to be a light blue, almost as light as the blue on the plate next to it. So it may seem odd that I’m…
Keep your reference images close
Tip: Keep your reference images close! You see where I’m going with it? Reference photos are so important to my art. My imagination and memory only go so far. Since I want this image to be noticeably Princess Jasmine, and noticeably Amelia Earhart, without having to explain, these little images are my buddies. I look…
Tacos & Tamales Recap
The Tacos & Tamales Festivale in Pilsen did better than I expected. There were 10 Taco vendors, and 10 Tamale vendors, live music, and LOCAL Artists. We set up on 16th street, in front of many of Pilsen’s fantastic murals. The weather was hot and not too humid, very sunny, and not too windy. People…
Rebel Without a Cause
The making of “James Dean” the painting.
Jane Austen, La Catrina
I love Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). I appreciate celebration of the dead, versus remembering the dead in sad ways. Jane Austen is a self portrait, of my future self. When I am gone, I will be sipping tea in nature, with a diva skeleton butterfly (wearing gold lipstick), and reading Pride…
Snow White as Rosie the Riveter
All of my paintings have a story. Nothing comes from thin air. “Snow White as Rosie the Riveter” came about in Sep 2014 when I was in Disney world with my sisters. We visited the dreamland of our childhoods, as adults, and saw everything in a whole new light. For starters, we discovered #HiddenMickey !…
